Porsche is marking its 60th anniversary with a limited edition of a model that turned the German sports car brand into an automotive icon.
Porsche said it will make just 1,963 of the 911 S/T, the lightest of the 992 generation.
Exclusivity comes at a price. The Porsche 911 S/T starts at $291,650, including shipping. U.S. deliveries begin in spring 2024.
The model will debut at Porsche’s Rennsport Reunion in September.
A 4.0-liter flat-six engine powers the 911 S/T, delivering 518 hp. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and lightweight clutch.
Porsche said the S/T is the only current generation 911 to combine a double-wishbone front-axle design with a multilink rear axle without rear-axle steering.
The 911 S/T weighs 3,056 pounds, 70 pounds lighter than a manual 911 GT3 Touring.
To achieve that, Porsche combined elements of the 911 GT3 RS with the body of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package, supplemented with specially developed lightweight components.
The hood, roof, front fenders and doors on the 911 S/T are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, as is the rear axle anti-roll bar.
Reduced insulation, lack of rear-axle steering, magnesium wheels and lightweight glass help keep the pounds off.
The 911 S/T goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 186 mph.
Unlike the track-focused 911 GT3 RS, the 911 S/T is refined enough to be driven on winding public roads.
Porsche said lighter components improve driving agility and the responsiveness of the naturally aspirated boxer engine.
“Every steering movement, every ounce of pressure on the accelerator or brake is implemented immediately and with pinpoint precision,” Porsche said in a statement.
Porsche will offer the 911 S/T with an optional Heritage Design Package inspired by the racing version of the 911 S from the late 1960s and early 1970s.
It features an exclusive exterior and wheel rim color. A starting number from 0 to 99 can be applied to the doors upon request.
The classic-style Porsche crest from the original 911 on the front, the center caps of the wheels, the steering wheel, the headrests and the car key underscores the roots of the 911 S/T.
