Three of the nation’s largest privately owned dealership groups expanded their holdings with second- and third-quarter acquisitions.

Each transaction involved an auto retailer ranked on Automotive Newslist of the top 150 dealership groups.

Here’s a look at the deals involving import and luxury brand stores in Pennsylvania, Texas and Montana.

#1 Cochran Automotive continued its 2023 acquisition spree with a third-quarter purchase of a Honda dealership.

The auto retailer on Aug. 23 bought South Hills Honda in McMurray, Pa., from Greg Norton, #1 Cochran confirmed.

The store was renamed #1 Cochran Honda South Hills. McMurray is south of Pittsburgh.

“The acquisition expands our relationship with Honda, bringing a second store into our stable — and notably, our first in the Pittsburgh Metro,” #1 Cochran Automotive CEO Rob Cochran said in a statement.

In June, the growing auto retailer bought two dealerships in separate transactions. The group also bought a pair of stores in January.

#1 Cochran, of Monroeville, Pa., ranks No. 59 on Automotive News‘ list of the top 150 dealership groups based in the U.S., retailing 13,871 new vehicles in 2022.

Shottenkirk Automotive Group bolstered its Texas footprint with the purchase of a luxury dealership in the third quarter.

The expanding auto retailer on July 27 bought Jaguar-Land Rover Boerne from Charles Barrett, CEO Greg Shottenkirk confirmed. Boerne is northwest of San Antonio.

The dealership was renamed Shottenkirk Jaguar-Land Rover Boerne, Shottenkirk said. It marks the first Jaguar-Land Rover dealership for the group, he noted.

Andy Gill, CEO of Gill Automotive Group, a sell-side firm in St. Augustine, Fla., represented Barrett in the transaction.

In addition to Texas, Shottenkirk Automotive has dealerships in California, Georgia, Alabama, Iowa and Illinois.

Shottenkirk Automotive, of Prosper, Texas, ranks No. 56 on Automotive News‘ list of the top 150 dealership groups based in the U.S., retailing 14,429 new vehicles in 2022.

Young Automotive Group, of Layton, Utah, entered a new state with a second-quarter purchase.

On June 26, the group bought Flanagan Motors Mazda in Missoula, Mont., from Shannon Flanagan, a Young Automotive spokesperson confirmed in an email to Automotive News. Missoula is located in the western part of Montana.

The dealership was renamed Young Mazda Missoula. Flanagan has stayed on as community relations administrator for the dealership, Young Automotive said.

The group also has dealerships in Idaho.
