TO THE EDITOR:

Jamie Butters’ Feb. 7 column (“EVs should not divide America”) appears to favor electric vehicles but does mention they are “not really competitive” in terms of cost vs. internal combustion-powered vehicles.

What is missing, however, is mention of the environmental consequences of manufacturing and using these vehicles and how that data compares to current internal combustion engine vehicles. Improvements that continue to be made to the efficiency of internal combustion along with the added positive of not disrupting the economy are equally pertinent.

I am not convinced the environmental benefits from EVs are factual, and I continue to believe that the real agenda is to let being green show you the way to making green (money).

Perhaps if ironclad proof of hell being frozen over became available, I could believe in the need to eliminate fossil fuel use.

Add to that factual data that shows how the production and use of EVs (charging and battery disposal, to name just two concerns) meet the stated goals of improving the environment, myself and many others could become converts.
