Mini is in a generational lull between major updates as the automaker preps for an all-electric lineup early next decade.
The small-car brand is launching a trio of special-edition packages to keep consumers engaged in the interim.
Mini will introduce Special Edition versions with exclusive colors and cosmetic upgrades across its 2023 lineup of hardtops, convertibles and crossovers.
The new editions can help spur interest in the aging Mini models, said Sam Fiorani, vice president at AutoForecast Solutions.
“New models won’t be ready for more than two years,” Fiorani said. “So keeping the demand going on these older models helps keep the factories rolling and dealers happy.”
The editions also cater to Mini loyalists’ penchant for individualization.
On average, 60 percent of Mini buyers factory-order their vehicles, said Patrick McKenna, Mini’s U.S. product and marketing chief.
“The Special Editions take that customization to the next level, that bespoke level, where you can add elements that are very unique, even beyond our custom build,” McKenna said.
The special editions carry a $1,000 to $2,250 premium over standard Mini models. Special Edition sticker prices start at $36,750 and top out at $47,750. All prices include an $850 shipping fee.
The Mini Resolute Edition in “Rebel Green” will be available on the Hardtop and Convertible models. The Hardtops feature a “Pepper White” roof finish, while the electrically operated soft top on the convertible is finished in black.
Exterior styling cues include the radiator grille, rear lights and door handles finished in “Resolute Bronze.” The door sills feature a pattern of parallel lines with a color gradient between a light and dark shade of gold.
The Untamed Edition of the Countryman sports “Momentum Grey” metallic paintwork. That package includes adaptive LED headlights, an anthracite-colored roof lining and an interior light package.
The special-edition models are not limited-volume runs.
“These are freely orderable,” McKenna said. “Sometimes we do special editions that are literally batch-built and there’s 100 identical cars and then you vie to get one of those cars.”
